Comment habiller bébé pour dormir au printemps et en été ?

How to dress baby for sleep in spring and summer?

With the return of warmer weather, nights are getting warmer. The question of the right pajamas for baby naturally comes up for many parents. Too hot, baby gets agitated and sleeps poorly. Too light, they risk getting cold at the end of the night when it's cooler. Finding the right balance allows baby and the whole family to enjoy a peaceful night's sleep.

Here are our tips for dressing baby for sleep in spring and summer.

The golden rule: neither too hot, nor too cold

Babies, especially newborns, do not yet regulate their body temperature. They are entirely dependent on their environment and what they wear to maintain a stable temperature.

The rule generally recommended by pediatricians is simple: dress baby like yourself, plus one layer. If you wear a light t-shirt in the evening, baby will need a bodysuit and light pajamas.

In summer, when nighttime temperatures remain high, a simple bodysuit may suffice. In spring, when nights are still cool, an organic cotton baby sleepsuit remains essential.

What material to choose for baby pajamas in spring and summer?

The material is the most important criterion for warm nights. It is important to prioritize soft, breathable, and healthy materials for baby's still fragile skin.

Organic cotton double gauze

Double gauze provides enveloping softness for nights from spring onwards. Light and airy, it allows the skin to breathe. Its two-layer crossed structure gives it excellent thermal regulation: it keeps baby cool when it's hot, and retains a little warmth when temperatures drop at the end of the night.

This is the material we recommend first for spring-summer baby sleepsuits.

Organic cotton jersey

More structured than double gauze, organic cotton jersey remains an excellent option for spring, when nights are still a little cool. Soft, stretchy, and comfortable, it adapts to baby's movements without restricting them. Our exclusive jersey, manufactured and dyed in Spain according to strict ecological criteria, is particularly appreciated for its incomparable softness.

Why choose organic cotton?

Baby's skin is three times thinner than an adult's. It absorbs substances with which it comes into contact more easily. By choosing a certified organic cotton baby sleepsuit, you are offering them a material grown without pesticides, dyed without harmful substances. There is nothing softer for baby's sensitive skin.

Which sleepsuit model to choose depending on the season?

In spring, when nights are still cool

In April and May, daytime temperatures begin to soften. However, nights can still be cool, especially at the beginning of the season. Opt for a footed organic cotton jersey sleepsuit: it protects little feet and keeps baby at the right temperature.

In summer, when nights are warm

As soon as nighttime temperatures exceed 20-22°C, prefer a footless double gauze sleepsuit, or a light jumpsuit. Make sure baby's room is well ventilated, and avoid synthetic materials that cause sweating.

The rule according to room temperature

Here is a simple guide to help you:

  • Less than 18°C: a warm sleepsuit in thick jersey or light fleece
  • 18 to 20°C: an organic cotton jersey sleepsuit
  • 20 to 22°C: a light double gauze sleepsuit
  • More than 22°C: an organic cotton baby bodysuit alone or a very light gauze jumpsuit

How to tell if baby is too hot or too cold?

Baby can't tell you, but their body gives you clues. To check their temperature, place your hand on their neck - this is the most reliable place, much more so than the hands or feet which are naturally cooler.

  • Warm and clammy neck → baby is too hot, remove a layer
  • Cool neck → baby is cold, add a light layer
  • Lukewarm neck → baby is at the right temperature 🌿
