The birdhouse

Whether you live in the city or in the countryside, the little birds of everyday life are just waiting for you to brighten up your day!

Cécile, who lives in the heart of Paris, has been feeding birds on her terrace for years, and it's a joy to see the tits, sparrows, and robins come to peck at the seeds she gives them. She made us a cute little birdhouse entirely from recycled materials. A very satisfying craft project, even for young children.

.

You will need:

1 full box of potatoes in a lightweight wooden crate

1 roll of string

1 pair of scissors

1 sachet of birdseed

Realization

Remove the lid from the box and cut two 60cm lengths of string. Pass the string through a bottom corner of the box and tie a knot at the top of the corner.

Repeat the operation in the opposite corner, making a diagonal. Do the same thing on the two remaining corners.

The base of the birdhouse is ready.

With the help of an adult, fold the lid in half by splitting it slightly and make it look like a small roof.

Fill the birdhouse with seeds and go hang it in a tree.

If you live in the city, hang it from a window or balcony railing. Pigeons won't come because they need to land on the ground to eat, so there's no need to worry about attracting them!

Hyacinths to grow indoors

.

Winter is the season of rest and regeneration for plants, but it's always a pleasure to watch hyacinths and other bulbous plants grow and bloom indoors. The first winter flowers often have a rather strong fragrance, and hyacinths are a perfect example!

You will need:

.

potted hyacinths of different colors

Simple terracotta pots or a shallow dish

Moss (to be found in nature with this rainy winter or at your florist)

To add a touch of poetry to simple potted hyacinths, place them in terracotta pots and cover them with freshly cut moss. Remember to leave a gap between the plant and the pot if it doesn't have drainage.

.

Water every two days and show the children the accelerated development of the plant and its heady fragrance!

.

When the hyacinth has finished flowering, leave it outside and let the leaves yellow. This allows the bulb to regenerate, and you can then plant it in the ground to see it bloom again in the spring of 2023!
